King of Cups Tarot Card Reading

Happy Monday everyone! I am home from a lovely 3 weeks with my mom in Florida. It was delightful to spend time with her. When I got home, my skittish cat Zuzu had forgotten who I was and hid from me!! I had to slowly remind her I’m a friendly person 🙂. She’s now sitting in my lap so I think she’s recovering.

My card reminds me to appreciate all I have in life and to move forward with purpose. Every day matters! Let me know if you’d like a card to inspire you.

King of Cups Tarot Card Reading

King of Cups

Traditional meaning:

This card is about a person in a position of power who has achieved a level of prosperity. The person has developed inner strength and is comfortable with commitment. They have built wisdom over the years. It is a card of benefiting from that experience to examine and move forward on your dreams.

If you feel this card does not represent you personally, the card can often represent a person who brings kindness, empathy, and compassion into your life. The card reminds you to be open to this connection.

Some interpretations of this card explore the balance between the intellect and the subconscious. Between what we think logically about an issue and how we feel emotionally. It reminds us both are important.

It also reminds us of the power of diplomacy. That it’s important to hear all sides and to consider all viewpoints.

Aquarian Deck Interpretation:

The king is a stable balance of elegance and security. The king, rather than a decorative crown, wears a helmet with metal spheres in it – both protective and lovely. The cloak and tunic also have that combination of protective metal along with a nice combination of fabrics. This king represents both the practical and beautiful aspects of the world we live in.

The king has a steady hand on the beautiful cup. The cup represents all we can hope for. Security. Wealth. Love. The king has earned this status through diligent efforts. This king chooses to share the gifts gathered.

The king is calm, content, and at ease.

Cloister Deck Interpretation:

This King is on his throne, pensive, leaning forward. The cup / vessel is there in the lap. The King is contemplating it. There is a gentle sea behind and a sandy beach before. There is soft sand. The King seems calm and wise. They are at ease with where they are, and perhaps a bit pensive.

Tarot of the Divine Deck Interpretation:

The Boy and the Dragon Pearl / China / Chinese Legend – I’m not quite sure this legend matches well with this card. This deck seems hit-or-miss in terms of pairings. In the legend, a boy desperately looks for grass every day, to sell to get food to feed himself and his sick mother. One day he finds a pearl which helps rice grow. They are able to feed their village with its help. Bad people come, the boy ends up swallowing the pearl, and then he turns into a dragon.

So yes the boy does what he can to care for those he loves, but he’s pretty much at the whim of fate the entire time. He didn’t choose to become a dragon. Maybe being a dragon is his ‘reward’ for caring for his village? Hopefully he wanted to be a dragon and not a man with a family 😊.

Let’s rework this card a bit. A young man works hard for years building a business to support his family. It becomes prosperous. The pearl is a metaphor for that prosperity. Greedy people try to come and steal his prosperity from him. He gathers his inner fortitude to become a great dragon, to protect his entire community from the greedy people. He triumphs. His village is safe, his family is safe, and a great future is before him, all due to his compassion and strength.
